Offical White House Portrait of Michelle Obama

Official White House Portrait of Mrs. Michelle Obama

November 2008 brought crazy change to America. Barak Obama was elected by the majority of the American voters to be the next inhabitants of the White House. Barak H. Obama the 44th President of the United States. Washington, Adams and Jefferson the names that represent the forefathers of the American dream. It was the American dream that said to the former Presidents that "all men were created equal." What did that mean to them? Did it mean that all men were equal but not if owned by others? Or did it mean if your skin was not European that you were not equally welcome to the dream of pursing happiness.

I know you did not notice in the background the portrait of Thomas Jefferson, but isn't that ironic that in 2009 a African American woman named Michelle Obama would grace the same room. It warms my heart that the contradiction of the dream now has begun to be deconstructed. Brick by brick the impenetrable walls of racism and hatred have at least this year taken a back seat to the achievements of the Obamas. I give honor to the First Lady who reminds us to pursue the words of those who did not have her in mind: being happy.
